Question: What has 4469 and 37 subscribers?

Answer: This blog and Kansas Region of ScriptFrenzy http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/
----------
The problem with the site seems to not be the host, but somewhere between them and myself that the connection went wacky. But all seems well now. I tend to blame the weather; it was so windy we had power outages in the region.

I have been Blog Tagged by Christie Grant! If you want to stick strictly to business, forgive me and please skip to the closing

7 Random Things About Me

1.
This morning I had Rabbits in my front yard - it made my day.
2. I have a hidden fascination with trash media, and always read the headlines while waiting in line at Wal-Mart.
3. I shop at Wal-Mart. But, in my defense I live in a VERY rural area with few options.
4. I want to be a best selling author when I grow up.
5. I currently have a Looney Tunes Mug on my desk, and it is always there. The colors go with my office and you can never be depressed when you are looking at Bugs Bunny.
6. I once owned a pink bicycle with streamers on the handlebars.
7. At this very moment, I have a stray kitten falling asleep between myself and the keyboard.

Ideas on what to name her? I want to call her something 'artsy' and 'creative', but not so 'artsy' and 'creative' that my family refuses to call her by it.

May 17th Artist-How-To - New Free Tutorial

------
New
------
There is now a new tutorial up on the Free Lesson Page

To some it may look familiar? It was used on the AHT Wiki and lost when we went back to the original form. How To Make Your Own Buffer Wheel

Interesting Links
-------
The first link I am totally jealous! It is what I had hoped to bring forth with the ArtyWiki. But they have done an amazing job! Instructables

http://www.instructables.com/forum/E3W7VC6A9WEXCFFIBC/

The second is one that I heard about last year on diggnation.com and I have been watching from a distance to see how well it would go. It is no secret to those that know me that I love LOVE LOVE my Alphasmart. But I am wondering about trying this out for an inexpensive portable word processor.

http://www.laptop.org/

If you do not follow the link, know that it is a $100.00 laptop. Originally I heard that you have to purchase two at a time, where one will go to a child in need. They are bare bones, and come in neon colors, but would totally meet the basic needs of a writer. Another interesting feature is that they are designed so they can be charged up through human power, aka a generator. This would make it so that children with no electricity could use one to learn. Worth keeping an eye on the program!
----------
Personal
----------
BTW a new book, articles and a possible new zine are in the works.

On a more personal side I will not be as productive over the next couple of weeks, producing free lessons and tutorials as I have been in the past months. June is the first ScriptFrenzy event and I am a Municipal Liaison for the Chanute, KS area. http://www.scriptfrenzy.org

Although I have never written a script before, I see it as a good way to stretch my boundaries a bit and the more writing I do the better!

I will still be adding things to the site, just not quite as often over the next 6 weeks or so...
---------
Conclusion
---------
Congrats to RunnerGurl! (Gail) for winning our latest contest! WHOOWHOOOOOOOOO!! (throwing confetti in the air) The rest of you keep an eye out there will be more contests in the future.

Sale, Contest and Update Artist-How-To.com

Our sale is still going on until May 14th so be sure to take advantage of it while you still can!
http://www.artist-how-to.com/

Also be on the look out for contest in these Blog Posts. I want to give things away at least once a month.
---------
New Lessons
---------
The new 'lesson' is not so much a lesson as a 'helper'. It is an example of a 'Model Release Form'.

The second is an update of a previously posted lesson on Making A Mold with polymer clay. You can find both HERE
----------
Links of Interest
----------

The first link is more of a personal one than art related. Since my last post a devastating tornado hit here in Kansas at Greensburg. I am sure you have all heard about it. These pics begin to show the destruction of the storm.

http://www.kansas.com/static/slides/050507tornadoaerials/

The next one is one that I am still wondering about. Some of you may recall me talking about NANOWRIMO (National Novel Writing Month) last fall. Well, this June they branched out and began a Script Writing Program. You can find out more information at ScriptFrenzy.org

http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/

I am still wondering if I will participate. I was a part of NANOWRIMO for the previous two years, and this last year was a Municipal Liaison. Which just means I set up a place for writers to meet in my area, and I was in charge of herding them. The Script writing sounds interesting but I just do not know if I will be able to take the time to do it or not. Although it is only 20,000 words instead of 50,000......hmmmm

If it is ANYWHERE near as well run as NANOWRIMO if you are even thinking about it and have never done such a thing before I would strongly recommend it!
----------
oh and btw the first person to leave a post here on the blog, gets their choice of a free e-book!
OK, now HURRY!
----------

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!! To all you moms!!!!

Please keep the emails coming to let me know what you would like to have offered :0)

Artist-How-To.com, Taxes, Garden Blog, E-books

If you are like many, you had a cold spell this past week, you were forced back inside. To help take advantage of that extra time indoors bone up on your alternative methods of photography 'Section Four - Alternative Methods' of our latest release "Black and White with a 35mm SLR Camera".

Or get a hold of that clutter, with "Controlling Creative Clutter: Organizing the Artist's Studio" 2nd Edition

--------
Ten things you can deduct as an Artist working from home.
--------
(Note- I am not a tax attorney, so be sure to contact a legal professional if necessary)

April 15th is only 7 days away! So if you haven't filed already, you are most likely feeling the 'crunch time'.

1. Magazines - That's right, any magazine that you purchase to read more about your chosen profession, or submit your art to is allowed.

2. Entry Fees - Time to dig out the information you filed away back in March of 2006 to enter your work in that competition.

3. Art supplies - Must have to make art. So remember to keep those receipts from Hobby Lobby and Dick Blick!

4. A portion of your rent/mortgage - You will find the necessary information most likely on your schedule C form.

5. Internet - Percentage of cost you use for business.

6. Hardware - Computer Hardware that is. Did you need to get a new Printer last year?

7. Maintenance - Upkeep of studio/office space, such as necessary floor covering, or wall paint.

8. Office Supplies - Paper used in printer, ink, envelopes etc that are a part of business.

9. Postage - Cost of postage for work sold, or for shows.

10. Travel Cost - Did you need to make a run somewhere to participate in a business activity? Be sure to take the deductions possible. But only those that apply to necessary business travel.
